The creator landscape has shifted over the past year with the rise of AI, offering increased productivity and the promise of more personal time. However, it raises important questions about ethics, ownership, privacy, and engagement standards. Can a human-first perspective prevail? That’s what we aim to explore.
A Few Thoughts:
A Few Thoughts:
1) AI will serve as the foundation for XR technologies, with creators acting as its guides. As the distinction between our roles as creators and consumers blend, the question shifts from "WHAT do we create as it will be possible to do ANYTHING with AI" to "WHY should we create it?" Critical thinking will converge with moral authenticity as we strive to define what we consider 'real' and 'right'.
2) A few years ago, we entered a unique relationship between creators and their audience. Not content to be consumers led by a top down hierarchy, influence now moves from the grassroots up. We are both consumers AND co-creators where influencers have equal or sometimes even more power than celebrities. Our thoughts and opinions and understanding of how we want to use technology both empowers us and gives us affordances that we might never have dreamed of in day's past.
3) AI and XR for good. As AI continues to form the backbone of XR, we are confronted with provocative questions that question how we want privacy, ownership and ethically led standards to be regulated. Should we allow ourselves/society to be motivated by consumerism/profitability or is there room for actual progression that benefits all of us? These are some of the questions that will continue to challenge our perceptions as we move into the next few years. Personally, I am excited about AI and its ability to change how we connect with each other especially in training, health (physical and mental health) and educational frameworks.
Thank you for inviting me to speak about trends, creativity, good taste and ethics going forward in 2025 (AWE Hosts: Sam Sprigg & Nik Vassev). It's the second time I've been invited to speak at an AWE event having done so at Long Beach, Ca in the summer 2024.
This event was very special for me because the year before the global shutdown, I met Tom Emrich who had visited Vancouver from LA. During his presentation, I won a fun contest that resulted in my receiving an invitation to AWE in San Jose. While there, I met amazing people who opened up my eyes to the amazing world of XR. Years later, to have been invited to speak at the AWE conference was a dream come full-circle!
