The Sailor - Journey Spirit - Black and white pen and ink
The sailor represents us - adventurers on a voyage in the 'journey of life'. I believe that we are always accompanied by spirits that either guide us or pull us into precarious situations.
The other day, a friend of mine made a comment that likened my subject matter to a movement inspired by suffism. I was both intrigued and curious. Sufficsm is characterized by poetic displays of love and strong emotion originating in the middle east. What was ironic was that my image was created as my own personal response to organized Christian religion and is actually Part 1 of two parts depiciting the archetypical description of the Catholic notion/story of 'temptation'.
